Activated Carbon
Activated carbon is a form of carbon that has been subjected to a series of treatments (“activation”) to make it extremely porous, resulting in a very large surface area. One gram of activated carbon has a surface area of approximately 500m2 (larger than a full basketball court). Activated carbon has enhanced adsorption properties and is commonly used in many industries for removing impurities by binding organic solutes, thereby removing them from the solution. Several grades of activated carbon are available in our product range for applications in different industries. Examples of activated carbon use in the food industry include water treatment, beverage purification and the decolorizing and refining of sugar/sweeteners.
